The construction of the new King Husein School is underway, marking a significant milestone in Madera Unified’s educational journey. The project, which broke ground in August 2024, is set to create a state-of-the-art facility designed to accommodate up to 1,000 TK-8th-grade students. Located on the south side of Cleveland Avenue, west of Westberry Boulevard, the school will consist of ten buildings, which include administration and library spaces, academic buildings housing two grade levels each, a STEM & Art building, and a multipurpose building including stage, music and drama spaces, kitchen and separate dining areas for elementary and secondary students. The school will also include a preschool, an athletic snack bar/restroom building, an outdoor covered basketball court, playgrounds, ballfields, and play courts.
Darden Architects, the firm behind the design of King Husein School, is known for its innovative approach to educational architecture. The firm’s vision for the school emphasizes both functionality and aesthetic appeal, ensuring that the buildings blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment while also providing the best possible learning spaces.
Harris Construction, the general contractor for the project, and their subcontractors have been working diligently on site since construction began. Their focus has primarily been on installation of underground utilities and the construction of building footings. The team is committed to ensuring the project stays on schedule and meets the highest standards of quality.
